The Lady Cats’ softball team won a wild, 11-9 slug-fest at McKinney Tuesday night.
The Lady Cats scored 3 first inning runs only to see the Lions put up 4. Both teams scored a run in the third and the Lions led 5-4. The Lady Cats tied the game in the top of the fourth only to see the Lions add 2 to lead, 7-5. A 4 run fifth inning put the Lady Cats up 9-7. The Lions reduced the lead to 9-8 after six innings. The Lady Cats added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh and they led 11-8. The Lady Cats yielded 1 seventh inning run but held on to win 11-9.
Alli Fite pitched 4 innings striking out 5 and Bailey Haggerty threw 3 innings with 4 strikeouts.
The Lady Cats pounded out 9 hits. Alyssa Abron had 2 hits and she drew 2 walks. Sadie Stroud also had 2 hits. Brinklee Driver, Stroud and Kelsey Wallace all had 2 RBIs.
The Lady Cats committed 2 errors. The McKinney Lions had 8 hits but hurt their own cause with 7 costly errors.
The Lady Cats also defeated the Lions, 7-1 during the Sulphur Springs Varsity Softball Tournament. The Lady Cats are now 9-2 for the season. They will begin play in a three-day Wylie tournament Thursday.
