The Wildcats’ powerlifting team had a very strong meet at Quitman Saturday. Wildcats Powerlifting Coach Casey Jeter called it the team’s best meet of the year as the Wildcats finished in first place.
Out of 18 Wildcats’ lifters, 15 finished in the top five and earned a medal. Coach Jeter said every lifter topped their personal record. Five Wildcats finished in first place in their weight class: Alex Rodriguez in the 114 pound weight class, Cason Goodson in the 132 pound weight class, Cor’Tavius Pruitt in the 181 pound weight class, D’Idrec Dugan in the 220 pound weight class and Ian Blanch in the 275 pound weight class. There were four second place finishers: Oscar Yanez in the 114 pound weight class, Isaiah Neal in the 181 pound weight class, Searn Rodgers in the 198 pound weight class and Norris English in the Super Heavy Weight class. Three Wildcats finished third: Carson Bridges in the 165 pound weight class, Vincent Morales in the 181 pound weight class and Ignacio Guerrero in the 242 pound weight class. Three Wildcats also finished fifth in their weight class: George Greenway in the 148 pound weight class, Jose Rodriguez in the 220 pound weight class and Jesus Olivo in the 275 pound weight class. Two Wildcats were sixth: Landry Tyson in the 165 pound weight class and Evan Rushing in the 189 pound weight class.
Wildcats’ lifters who qualify for the regional meet will compete March 4 in Lindale.
Wildcats Athletic Director Greg Owens reported this bit of news Monday. The Wildcats’ golf team finished fourth at a Rockwall sponsored tournament at Sulphur Springs Country Club Friday and Saturday. Alex Motes ended up in second place in the medalist competition and also made a hole in one on the #4 hole at the country club course. We’ll have more details on golf Tuesday.
