Roy Lee Smith

Funeral services for Roy Lee Smith, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, TX with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating and Rev. Fred Randles assisting. Graveside service will be Monday, December 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Chilton Cemetery in Chilton, TX with Harrell Hettich, Billy Hettich, Carson McIllwain, Tim Charlton, Barry Charlton, and Tom Farris serving as pallbearers and First Baptist Sanctuary Choir and Bonner Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.

Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs. He was born on February 19, 1926 in Lorena, TX to Cass and Ruth Moore Smith. He married Mary Dea Charlton in Hopkins County on November 7, 1953. Mr. Smith was retired from Texas Power and Light and was a member of the First Baptist Church Sulphur Springs. After retiring from Texas Power and Light Mr. Smith served in foreign and home missions.  He was in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir for 66 years, a 50-year Mason, and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; brothers-in-law Hubert Holland and Roger Charlton and wife Ann; sister-in-law Julie Miller; and several nieces and nephews; and his First Baptist Church family.

He is preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
