Local Woman Receives Kidney on Thanksgiving Day

As families gathered around the Thanksgiving Day table, the family of Shelly Moore Huff assembled at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Mrs. Huff spent Thanksgiving Day on a surgical table receiving a kidney transplant. For her and her family, a time of thanksgiving.

Mrs. Huff, who grew up in Sulphur Springs and currently is administrative assistant for Rehoboth Baptist Association, had been on the transplant list less than 30 days. Prior to that, she had been on dialysis due to issues with her kidneys. She was moved to the head of the line Thanksgiving Day, thanks to a complete 6-point match with the donated kidney.

Her surgery began around 7 p.m. and at 10 p.m., she was halfway through her surgery. By Sunday she was walking and on Monday she returned home to Sulphur Springs.
