“Pumpkins on the Square” Contest!

Billie Ruth Standbridge, charter member of the Downtown Business Alliance, explains the new Tasting and Tablescaping Contests as part of “Pumpkins on the Square” on Celebration Plaza, to be held on the morning of Saturday October 15, 2016. There will be divisions for adults and youth to enter, plus cash prizes for winners and ribbons for honorable mention entries.

For those who wish to enter the Food Contest, here’s an overview of the rules: all foods entered must use pumpkin in the recipe. No cooking will be done on site: prepared foods will be brought and entered in a designated area near the courthouse. Categories include soups, breads, desserts and miscellaneous. Please prepare recipes that are large enough to yield at least 50 small “taster” servings. Also please provide a table for your food entries. Sponsor signs are encouraged. Electricity will be provided for those whose foods require it. Following the judging at 10am, the public will be invited to “taste” the entries for free!

For those who wish to enter the Tablescaping Contest, here’s an overview of the rules: your tabletop decor must include a single place setting and a centerpiece and must utilize at least one pumpkin. You must provide a table for your entry, and sponsor signs are encouraged. You may also provide a canopy if you wish.

In the Adult division, entry fee is $20 per entry. In the Youth Division,entry fee is $10 per entry. Find entry forms at local businesses with a Pumpkins on the Square poster on the front window.
