PJC-SS Center offering Community Ed Classes in September

PJC-Sulphur Springs Center offering Community education classes in September

Learning to save lives, decorate cakes, or keep health care career skills updated are among the options offered in September by the Paris Junior College – Sulphur Springs Center Continuing Education Department.

Microsoft Excel Level 2 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2. Learn more advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and automate worksheet tasks.

The Initial Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 8:30 to 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9. Students are taught management of those needing CPR or foreign body airway management.

Computer Essentials Level 2: Beyond the Basics teaches advanced concepts including file storage, cut/copy/paste, computer updating and tune up, social media and more. The class will meet Friday, Sept. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Cake Decorating Part 1: Colorful Cakes and Cupcakes covers easy decorating techniques that can be combined to create unique designs. Includes three basic icing techniques, how to adjust icing textures and tips and tricks on icing a cake. Tuition includes a basic decorating kit and ic¬ing for a dozen cupcakes. The class is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Nurse Aide Skills Refresher is for any student wanting to refresh their Nurse Aide skills prior to their certification test. Students must register 48 hours in advance. The class is offered Wednesday, Sept. 14, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Seniorific Computer Essentials Level 3 – Email covers the basics of sending, receiving and forwarding emails as well as attachments and proper email etiquette. Those lacking an email account will have one set up before leaving. The class meets Friday, Sept. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Cake Decorating Part 2: Basic Piping and Flowers covers making professional looking flowers and designs through the use of basic piping, writing, and flower techniques. Learn tips and tricks to make common flowers including roses, chrysanthemums, and hydrangeas. The class is scheduled to meet Monday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Medication Aide Update will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. The course fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirement. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.

Cake Decorating Part 3: Advanced Cake Designs applies advanced butter cream and royal icing piping techniques like basket weave and lace. Create more advanced flowers and understand how to feature them on the cake. Learn the proper way to use fondant on a cake. The class is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Computer Essentials Level I is designed for the person with very limited computer training. The student will learn basic computers tasks, using windows, proper mouse and keyboard techniques, computer lingo and “buzz” words. The class will meet Friday, Sept. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
