Miller Grove News

by Brandon Darrow

Where did the cooler weather go?  For several days it was so nice but now we’re in the upper 90’s again and hoping for some rain.

L.J. Skillman recently sent me an email filling me in Miller Grove Graduating Class of 1949.  She said that the classmates and other friends met on Fri., Sept. 9, at Whataburger in Sulphur Springs.  Attendees included (followed by graduation year):  Lillie Belle Davis Renshaw (1946), Johnny McWilliams (1949), Ruby Nell McWilliams Moseley (1949), Mildred Davis Abbott (1949), Patsy Wood Yates (1951), Gail Mercer Hatcher (1954), Ruby Ann Bishop Ross (1953) & husband Norman Ross, Johnny Ferguson (1949) & wife Mary Lynn, Mary Lou Ferguson Akins (1941), Ava Jean Taylor Birmingham (1949), Emma Sue Taylor Loftin (1953), Octave Woods (1950), and Linell Barrett Woods (1953).  L.J. and her father, Milus Robinson (1949) hosted and coordinated the gathering.  Everyone from the group had a good time and enjoyed reminiscing and visiting with friends.  Some of the folks from the group were locals with Ava Jean made the trip from Garland and Mildred made the trek from Cleburne, TX.

Congratulations to my good friends, Clark and Lindsey (Watson) Cipoletta, who met their newest son, Boston James Cipoletta, on Sept. 14.  He weighed 8 lbs, 4 oz, and was 20 inches long.  Mom, dad, and brother Maddox are all doing well.  Maternal grandparents are Richard and Sandi Watson of Sulphur Springs and maternal great-grandmother is Yvonne Skelton, also of Sulphur Springs.

I also learned that MG graduates Weston and Mackenzie (Taylor) House are expecting a baby with the due date of May 9, 2017.  Congratulations to them.

Thursday was Miller Grove’s Cross Country Meet.  I’m not sure of the outcome but when I passed the school that afternoon I saw quite a few runners and spectators on hand.

Continue to keep in mind that Miller Grove PTO has coordinated a Glow Run for Oct. 8.  Now, don’t think this is just a plain old glow run.  That is the farthest from the truth I assure you.  So far, besides the run, we have a Monty Tipps and Mainstreet that will be providing live music.  The Ag students will be serving BBQ, the Senior class will have a glow painting booth, and Sheriff Lewis Tatum will kick the night off with the starting of the race.  The PTO is hoping for a good showing of supporters for the first annual run, so please come out and enjoy yourself.

Happy Birthday to Larry Mabe & Mark Garrett on Sept. 20, Tyler Darrow on Sept. 22, and Jerald Wren & Marisha Harrison on Sept. 24.
Happy 54th Anniversary to Johnny & Mary Lynn Ferguson on Sept. 22.  Happy 39th Anniversary to Paul & Bonnie (Millsap) Garrett on Sept. 24.
As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is [email protected].
