Funeral services for Frances Garmon Hopkins, age 96 of Cumby, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Jan Hopkins officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Frances passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Carriage House. She was born on January 19, 1920 in Bogata, the daughter of Hugh Thomas and Mary Lutisha (Lula) Garmon. She married James F. Hopkins on October 28, 1944 in Greenville. She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church in Richardson, director of food service at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport and she was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II.
She is survived by her grandsons, Michael Damon Hopkins of McKinney and Jeremy David Hopkins of Apex, N.C.; four great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son James Michael Hopkins; three brothers and three sisters.
