Wildcats Lose to State Ranked Marshall

The Marshall Mavericks, currently ranked #20 in Class 5A, remained unbeaten as they defeated the Wildcats Basketball Team, 84-55 in Wildcats Gym Friday night. The Mavericks are now 7-0 in district play and 24-0 for the season.

The Wildcats hung tough with the Mavs early and trailed only 19-16 after the first quarter. Marshall extended their lead to ten at the half, 40-30 and then ran away from the Wildcats in the third quarter outscoring them 21-7. Marshall hit 12 three pointers outside while their talented post player, Tiandre Jackson-Young poured in a game high 27 points mostly inside. The Wildcats got 18 points from Keaston Willis and 12 from Ke’Ontae Dunn. The Wildcats hit 9 three-pointers.

The loss drops to the Wildcats to 2-5 at the end of the first half of district play. They are 9-14 for the season. The Wildcats will host Texas High next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Wildcats Gym. The Wildcats opened district play with a 71-35 loss in Texarkana back on January 2.
