Love is in the Air by Johanna Hicks

Love is in the Air

June, the most popular month for weddings is rapidly approaching, and I wanted to announce a great opportunity for engaged couples, married couples, or seriously dating couples.  The “Twogether in Texas” marriage education workshop is approved by the state of Texas, and engaged couples will be given a certificate to take to the County Clerk’s office when applying for a marriage license.  The certificate will give the couples a $60 savings.  But I’m getting ahead of myself, so let me start at the beginning…

The marriage education workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at my office (Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service), 1200-B W. Houston Street, Sulphur Springs (former Chamber of Commerce building).  We will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m.  Coffee, water, and refreshments will be served, and then we’ll start the workshop with Marriage Expectations, Communication, and Conflict Resolution.  We’ll take a lunch break (lunch provided by the Sulphur Springs Country Club, and dessert provided by Idzy Bitsy Bakery), and then resume the workshop with Money Management and Goals & Dreams.  We will wrap up around 3:15 or 3:30 p.m.

There is NO charge for the workshop!  The certificate provided to the engaged couples is valid for an entire year from the date it is presented.  But, perhaps the most beneficial part of the workshop is the great information!  Couple interaction, group activities, and videos help keep the workshop fun.

Seven couples are currently signed up, so we will have a good group.  There is plenty of room for more couples, though!  In order to make adequate lunch and workshop preparations, interested couples should call my office at 903-885-3443 to reserve a spot.

Help share this information if you know anyone who is getting married, but remember, married couples are also welcome!

Multi-County 4-H Camp

One of the highlights of the year for 4-H members is the Multi-county 4-H camp.  Information letter and registrations forms are now available at the Extension Office.  Here are the details of the 2015 camp:

  • Date: July 6-8
  • Where: Lakeview Baptist Conference Center, Lone Star
  • Cost: $115 per camper – includes six meals, lodging, and all activities
  • Who: 4-H members and guests, ages 9-18
  • Registration deadline: forms must be completed and returned to our office by May 27th.

Workshops will include Geo-caching, Pillow workshop, Electricity, Human Foosball, Junior Master Gardeners, and ROPES Course.  A variety/talent show will be held on the second night, and youth are encouraged to bring any props or music they might need if they plan to be in the show.  Numerous awards will be given at the closing ceremony.

Hopkins County usually has one of the largest groups at the camp.  Ask any 4-H’er you know and they will tell you what a great time they had at camp!  My co-worker, Mario, and I will both be going, along with some of our adult 4-H leaders, so your child or grandchild will be well-chaperoned.  Please contact our office at 903-885-3443 or drop by and we’ll provide the registration form and information letter.
