February is such an unpredictable month. One day it’s cold and the next day It’s warm. We have even seen some trees begin to bud out after these warm spring like days. Well, it’s time to plant your onions and plan your next camping trip out to Cooper Lake State Park! We would love to have you come out and enjoy the best that nature has to offer! February will still be a bit slow but the programs will still be available so plan on coming out for the weekend or just for the day!
If you are planning on camping over spring break be sure to make your reservations soon. The sites will be going quickly the closer we get to March. Programs for the entire week will be taking place that will get kids and adults involved in the great outdoors!
In last month’s newsletter I mentioned the Texas Master Naturalists and the great work that they do in promoting good stewardship of the environment and assisting in local and regional projects at parks and wildlife refuges. It was brought to my attention that the majority of the readers of this newsletter are actually in counties that are part of the Red River Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. They presently have a membership of over 60 individuals and the only requirement is to attend the training and participate as you can in annual advanced classes and community service projects. They will begin their membership training sessions on February 21st and they run through May 16th. You can check out information on this and other events on their website at http://txmn.org/redriver/ events/ . It will be an awesome experience!
Have a wonderful month and we hope to see you out at the park very soon!
