Miller Grove News by Brandon Darrow

Saturday MG Cemetery Trustees met and made some decisions as to the program for the 2015 Memorial Day Services that will be held on Saturday, May 2. If everyone can commit, I think we will have another good line-up for this year’s program.
Sunday afternoon the County Line School Historical Marker committee nailed down some of the particulars on the dedication ceremony that will be coming up in April. A tentative date has been set for Sunday, April 12th, at 2:00 pm, pending weather. For now, if anyone has any County Line pictures or memorabilia please contact either myself or Gail Garmon. We would love to copy any pictures or news articles, or write down any memories of the County Line School and community that anyone would be willing to share. Gail’s phone number is 903-459-3312 and her email address is [email protected].

Congratulations to our Hornets Basketball team! They have made it into the play-offs!

Senior Night for basketball players was Tuesday, Feb. 17. Senior night is the last home basketball game of the season where the 12th graders are recognized and honored along with their parents who get to walk on court with them.

Another school-related activity was the Daddy Daughter Dance which was held on Thursday, Feb. 19. The dance was for any PK-5th grade female students and their fathers who would like to participate. The dance was located in the cafeteria. There were many pictures on Facebook of the local dad’s and daughters dressed in their finest.

Saturday will be MG FFA’s annual Miller Grove International Livestock Show. This is always a good preparation for next weekend’s NETLA show that will be hosted at the Hopkins County Civic Center.

Thank you to Mr. Tommy Robinson who dropped by the school last month to bring a donation of $2,000. His uncle, Lowell Robinson (who recently passed), was an early teacher at Miller Grove High School. Upon his passing, Lowell wanted to leave a donation to the school since it was his first teaching job and Tommy was kind enough to see that his uncle’s wishes were carried out. The gift is very much appreciated and was discussed at Wednesday night’s board meeting.

Another recent donation the school received was to help with the purchase of a digital sign to be installed in front of the high school. Cumby Telephone was generous enough to donate the majority of the money to pay for the sign, with the school paying only a small remaining portion of the cost. So, in the coming months you will see a new, high-tech, sign being installed on the campus.

Happy Birthday this week to Jimmy Harris on Feb. 15, Ed Basye on Feb. 16, Duane Garrett & Davy Moseley on Feb. 17, Chris Mynatt & Tanya Middleton Potts on Feb. 19, and Toriegh Petrea & Gail Prater Darrow on Feb. 20.

Happy 56th Anniversary to William and Bertha (Davis) Sparks on Feb. 21.
