“Updated” Stew Sites Set Record, Fall Festival Begins

A record number of cooks, 154 in all, will be competing at the 45th annual World Champion Stew Contest next Saturday. Chamber of Commerce President Meredith Caddell is calling the event Stew Fest because of the reuniting of stew and Fall Festival. At a Stew Cooks’ meeting this week, Ms. Caddell announced that in January a committee would be formed to plan the 50th anniversary Stew Contest coming in five years.

The 45th annual Stew Contest takes place Saturday and will feature a record number of stew sites, 154. That’s 10 more sites than ever before. Buford Park is again the venue. Cooks will compete in Beef and Chicken categories with past winners preparing Beef and Chicken in Super Stew competition. Awards will also go to best campsites.

This is the big Fall Festival week with Golf Tournament Monday, Senior Citizens Day Tuesday, Carnival beginning Wednesday, Cover Girl competition Tuesday and Thursday, numerous activities Friday and Saturday including extreme bicycle stunts, Kids’ Zone, Creative Arts Contest and Arts and Crafts plus Tejano Day Sunday the 26th.
