County Breaks Ground for New jail

At high noon Monday, Hopkins County officials will break ground for the new $16-million 192-bed County Jail. The groundbreaking will take place north of the current jail. Some 12 to 15 months of construction will follow. County Judge Robert Newsom says the project appears to be below budget. It is expected to increase the county tax rate in the budget about six cents according to Judge Newsom.
