AUSTIN – Representative Dan Flynn (R-Van) is pleased to announce the recipient of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship from House District 2. Cameron Crawford, a resident of Sulphur Springs, has been awarded the scholarship that covers up to $10,000 per year of college tuition. The scholarship program encourages academic development and dedication to the various branches of the state and federal armed services. Crawford must commit to at least 4 years of ROTC service while in college and receive a commission, or agree to enroll in a branch of the armed services upon graduation.

A sophomore at Texas A&M University, Cameron is a Nuclear Engineering major with hopes of becoming a nuclear submarine engineer in the Navy. He is also currently a midshipman in the Navy ROTC and a cadet in the Corps of Cadets.
While in high school, Crawford was a member of nearly every leadership club offered. Over his 4 years of high school, Cameron logged over 100 hours of community service while a part of Student Council, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Jazz Band, Eco Club, UIL, and FFA. He credits growing up on his family’s dairy farm with teaching him to appreciate the benefits of hard work and community service, citing the FFA motto has his own personal adage, “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.” With an extremely impressive list of volunteer services and well deserved honors and awards, Representative Flynn found Cameron’s application to be the epitome of service and humble character. “When Cameron applied for the scholarship, it was clear by reading his statement and reviewing his resume that this young man was going to go far in whatever career he chose,” said Representative Flynn. “It takes a very special kind of mind and character to have the discipline and focus necessary to understand the complexities of nuclear engineering. The desire he has to hone in on his field of study and dedicate his skills to the United State Navy is a very admirable and respectable career path.

There is no doubt that Cameron truly enjoys serving others, and I commend him for finding a way to do so in every facet of his life.”
Cameron is the only son of John and Kodeann Crawford. John works for the Southwest Dairy Farmers in Sulphur Springs and Kodeann is a 4th grade teacher at Mount Vernon Elementary School.

The Texas Armed Service Scholarship is awarded to an eligible and deserving student appointed by his or her State Representative or Senator, the Lieutenant Governor, or Governor.
