Man Dies While Being Booked Into Hopkins County Jail

Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Dallas man pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Brad Cummings in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 19, 2018. The man had been arrested for narcotics and money laundering following a traffic stop on I-30. According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s office, the man had been very cooperative during the stop and arrest.

Sheriff Lewis Tatum stated there had been no confrontation at any time during the arrest and book-in. During book-in, the man began to show signs of illness and EMS was called. CPR was given and the man in route to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital when he died.

The name of the man has not been released pending notification of his family. The man became ill and unresponsive before he could give his emergency contact information to the Sheriff’s office.
