Miller Grove News by Brandon Darrow 11/11/14

The first week of November provided to be a special week for Miller Grove High School. On the forefront of the headlines, Miller Grove Cross Country boys reached the seemingly unattainable goal of winning the State Championship for District 1-A. Congratulations to team members: William Clinton, Brennan Green, Trey Lester, Logan Miller, Riley Mitchell, Derek McCreight, and Aaron Smith. And let’s not forget our Lady Hornets. Even though they didn’t bring home the victory they still participated in the state meet which was a great feat within it’s self. Everyone is very proud of our students.

Miller Grove FFA Chapter also has bragging rights this week. Each of the students that competed at the recent district LDE competition at Northeast Texas Community College advanced to the upcoming Area round of events. Demi Weatherford was 3rd Place in Greenhand Creed Speaking; Macie Gilbreath, Eliot Gamez, and Larissa Alvarez took 2nd Place in Greenhand Skills; Hannah Caudle, Kelsie Abbott, and Courtnie Hilterbrand were 2nd in Senior Skills; 3rd Place in Public Relations was Lacey Taylor, Hannah Caudle, and Courtnie Hilterbrand. And 4th Place in Job Interview went to Lacey Taylor. Congratulations to all of these hard working students!

This weekend the Stripling family gathered at the Miller Grove Community Center to celebrate an early Thanksgiving. From what I could tell there was quite a crowd there.

Saturday was the MG Fire Department’s car show. I saw several competitors and onlookers as I passed by the school Saturday (where the event was held).

Happy Birthday this week to Clinton McInvale and Lynn Johnson on Nov. 9, Wanda Parrish on Nov. 10, and Mildred (Akins) Wheat on Nov. 15.
James and Bettie Garrett will celebrate 60 years of marriage on Nov. 10. Congratulations to them!
