Hay, Bees and Livestock Shows

A livestock show for 4H and FFA students is taking place Saturday in the Civic Center Arena. AgriLife Extension Agent Dr. Mario Villarino says it’s a good chance for youths to practice and polish their skills in showing animals to get ready for the livestock showing season. Youths can show lambs, goats, heifers and steers.

Dr. Villarino says there will also be a Bees of Texas presentation at the Extension Office on September 25 at 7 p.m. Those who attend can learn all about honeybees, their usefulness and how to set up a hive. Bees pollinate many crops.

Dr. Villarino adds the Hopkins County Hay Show will take place October 2. Samples are now being collected. Submitted hay is tested free for quality. Hay Show winners will receive $100.
