Cake Decorating Category from 2016 Fall Festival Creative Arts Contest

The Hopkins County Fall Festival Creative Arts Contest is not to be confused with the Arts and Craft Show. Occurring on Oct. 27th and 28th, this event will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, and 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday. There are many different categories to enter in from photography to baked goods, sewing and more! (See the full list below.) KSST talked to Johanna Hicks, chairwoman for this event, to find out more about the Creative Arts Contest.

“The Creative Arts Contest is similar to the contests held at the State Fair; people submit their work [to compete and win ribbons].” Ten judges from out of town will arrive on Oct. 27th to judge the categories. All of the judges have been certified to judge the contest, and will pass out ribbons for the winners: “white ribbons are for good entries, red ribbons are for better entries, and blue are for the best entries.” Hicks explained. “From the blue ribbon winners, we will pick a best of show for each category and age group.” Best of Show awards will be given out at 1:30 on October 28th. Hick’s said: “We have talented people in Hopkins and it’s amazing what they can do.”

If you have a talent and would like to enter into the competition you can register Monday October 23rd through Wednesday October 25th 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at the Extension Office. The Creative Arts Contest only is open to Hopkins County Residents to enter.

Participants can bring their entries to set up starting October 26th (from 4:30 am to 6:00 pm) and October 27th (from 7:30 am to 9:30 am). The contest will be held in the Conference Center at Sulphur Springs High School.

If you have any questions or concerns contact Johanna Hicks at the Extension Office.
