Texas Takes Top Spot in Nation for June Job Growth

July 22, 2026 – AUSTIN, Texas — Texas added more nonfarm jobs in June than any other state in the country, according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Texas Workforce Commission.

The Lone Star State added 43,400 nonfarm jobs over the month, bringing total nonfarm employment to a record high of 14,469,600. Texas also led the nation in job growth over the trailing 12-month period, expanding at a pace that outstripped the national average.

Over the past year, Texas gained 177,900 nonfarm jobs. Total employment in the state—which includes self-employed individuals—reached 15,203,600, while the overall state labor force grew by 29,700 people to reach 15,904,900.

Governor Greg Abbott pointed to the state’s skilled talent pool and pro-growth economic climate as key factors behind the gains.

“Our greatest natural resource is the people of our great state; that is why Texas leads the nation in job creation,” Governor Abbott said. “Business leaders credit our highly skilled workforce, welcoming business climate, and exceptional quality of life as Texas’ top advantages.”

Abbott noted that state leaders continue to focus on high-demand skills training and private-sector partnerships to sustain long-term opportunity. Since Abbott took office in January 2015, Texas has added more than 2.6 million jobs.
