Register for a Free Preventative Screening During Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September 28, 2028 – Sulphur Springs, Texas – September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate
cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when discovered early, having a 100% 5 year survival rate according to the National Institutes of Health.

However, prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. Why is such a treatable disease still claiming so many lives? In part, this is because of a lack of early detection.

Many men wait until they have symptoms before deciding to have their prostate checked, when reality is, prostate cancer usually doesn’t present symptoms until it is in advanced stages. Prioritizing regular, preventative screening is how we can combat these statistics and make prostate cancer deaths rarer each year.

The Foundation has 100 free PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood tests available that look for early signs of prostate cancer and give a general idea of prostate health.

Three groups of men qualify for a free blood test:

(1) Uninsured Hopkins County men aged 50 or older,

(2) Uninsured Hopkins County men aged 45 or more with a first-degree relative (a father, full brother, or son) who had or has prostate cancer,

(3) First responders who work in Hopkins County and meet the age criteria, but do not live in
Hopkins County.

Call (903) 438-4543 to check eligibility and schedule a free test for yourself, or if you are a partner or spouse, schedule one for the man in your life.

The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1997 that is governed by a local board of directors who live and work in Hopkins County. Follow the Foundation on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with offerings and activities. To contact the Foundation, call (903) 438-4799 or email [email protected].
