Stephen John Hood

Stephen John Hood, 73 passed away peacefully at his home May 16th in Foley Alabama. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Jackson Sloan Hood and Marjorie Watt Hood. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School Class of 1967. He enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and retired as a Lieutenant after serving 24 years. He served aboard destroyers, USS Brownson, USS Comte de Grasse, and USS Leftwich, Chief of Naval Technical Training, Millington TN. His final tour of duty was Electronic Material Officer Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station , Guam.

After his retirement he returned to Sulphur Springs and attended Texas A. & M. At Commerce and received his Masters degree in Physics. During this time he was president of the Hopkins County Historical Society and was selected as a TAMU Alumni Ambassador.

He began a second career as an engineer in the microchip industry working for SVG and Motorola. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Myers Hood, son, John David Hood of Austin, TX, grandchildren, Blaine Arbelaez, Groton CT, Hannah Dickerson and Wyatt Gregory Fields, San Francisco, Simon Dickerson, Memphis, his “favorite” uncle Curtis Hood, White Oak, TX, best friend Keith Karsten, Soldotna,AK and Snowball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, John and Gertrude Hood, Marjorie Buchanan and daughter Jennifer Dickerson, Memphis.

His request was for a burial at sea off the coast of Hawaii by the US Navy with full honors. Memorials may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation and Glioblastoma Foundation.
