Memorial services for John Tommy Winstead, age 74, of Saltillo, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at West Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Friday and Dr. Joel Tiemeyer officiating. Military honors will take place with the Hopkins County Military Coalition. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Moody, Dutch Vallaster, Gary Mobley, Gary Ross, Ron Mayberry, Gary Benson, Jerry Reynolds, and John Beadle. There will be no formal visitation.

Tommy passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home. He was born on October 18, 1946 in Campbell, Texas, the son of William Howard Winstead and Mel D. Blount Winstead.

He owned and operated his dairy farm for over 40 years, and then, drove a milk truck for Ballard Trucking for 17 years. He was the president of the Saltillo Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years. He loved to hunt and spend time with his family.

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by 3 daughters, Tina Slaton and husband Victor, Dana Winstead and husband Michael Robinson, Holly Daniel and husband Joe Bob, all of Saltillo; sister, Nell Jean Hall and husband James of Commerce; grandchildren, Justin Riley, Jake Riley, Brittany Moody and husband Andrew, Lane Bench, Dakota Patridge, Lyle Bench, Josey Bench and Paisley Daniel; great-grandchildren, Aiden Riley, Maverick Moody, Isaac Riley, Eli Riley, Marley Moody, and Landry Moody; and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Howard “Buddy” Winstead and W. C. Winstead; and sister, Willie D. Spencer.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
