A 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested over the weekend on three charges in which he is accused of sex crimes involving a child, according to arrest reports.
Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Chris Baumann, Justin Wilkerson and Aaron Chaney were made aware of three indictments issued for Johnathon Scott Shelton for the alleged sex crimes. The deputies traveled to the 36-year-old’s rural Sulphur Springs address and took him into custody at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021.
Shelton was booked into Hopkins County jail shortly before 7:30 p.m. April 24, on two indictments for indecency with a child by sexual contact and one indictment for aggravated sexual assault of a child. The offenses, deputies noted in arrest reports, occurred on or about November of 2015.
He was released from Hopkins County jail Monday, April 26, 2021, on $250,000 bond on the alleged sex crimes involving a child: $150,000 bond on the aggravated sexual assault charge and a $50,000 bond on each indecency charge, according to jail reports.
April 24, 2021, wasn’t the first time Shelton was arrested on child sex and assault charges. Shelton, who is also known by Jonathan Scott Shelton, was booked into and released from Hopkins County jail on Sept. 13, 20219, on a $100,000 bond on an indecency with a child by sexual contact warrant. He was spent the night May 7, 2005 in Hopkins County jail on an assault of a public servant charge, then was released the next day on a $10,000 bond.
