Lady Cats Softball Team Loses Pitchers’ Duel and Then Bounces Back at Canton Tournament Thursday

The Lady Cats Softball Team split a pair of games on the first day of a Canton tournament Thursday (March 4). 

The Lady Cats lost a 1-0 heartbreaker in a pitchers’ duel with Royse City and then were ahead 7-1 against Mineola when the lights went out in the top of the fifth inning.

Lady Cat Crimson Bryant deserved a better fate. She took the pitching loss against Royse City throwing 7 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 12 and walking 1. The Lady Bulldogs scored the game’s lone run in the top of the fourth. The Lady Cats could manage only 1 hit. Jaydn Harper hit a double in the third inning. Nylah Lindley had a walk and a stolen base.

The Lady Cats bounced back against Mineola scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up, 6-0. Both teams scored single runs in the fourth inning. Mineola was up in the top of the fifth when the lights went out. The Lady Cats outhit Mineola, 7 to 2.

Addison Caddell pitched a strong game to get the win. She went 4 innings and allowed only 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 4 and walking 2. Bryant was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI’s, a run and a walk. Grace Magnuson was 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored and a walk. Nicole Higgins was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Addison DeSmet was 1 for 2 with a run scored and a walk. Caddell was 1 for 2 with a walk. Matti Smith was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Harper scored a run and walked twice. Lindley scored a run and walked twice.

The Lady Cats are now 6-2 for the season. The Lady Cats play two more games Friday in the tournament. They face Kaufman at 10 A.M. and then Ferris at 4 P.M.
