Wildcat Theatre To Offer Feb. 28 Preview Performance Of ‘You On The Moors Now’

Sulphur Springs High School Wildcat Theatre students will present a preview at 2 p.m. this Sunday, February 28, of Jaclyn Backhaus’ “You On The Moors Now,” which the troupe will perform at the UIL One Act Play competition next week. The matinee preview will be performed in the SSHS Auditorium at Hopkins County Civic Center.

The show features four literary heroines of the 19th century who set conventionalism ablaze when they turn down marriage proposals from their equally famous gentlemen callers. Jane Eyre is performed by sophomore Danielle Verlander, Cathy Linton by senior Hannah Shultz, Elizabeth Bennett by senior Rorie Young, and Jo March by junior AllieGrace Woodard.

What results is a confluence of love, anger, grief and bloodshed, as the ensemble struggles to reconcile romantic ideologies of the past with their modern ideas of courtship. Everything you’ve learned about love from the pages of Pride and PrejudiceWuthering HeightsJane Eyre, and Little Women is turned upside down in this grand theatrical battle royale, according to SSHS Director of Theatre Lesha Woodard.

Senior Caitlynn Monaghen, Juniors Lucy Braddy and Caleb Talmage, Sophomores Khira Young and Austin Crump , and Freshmen Jolene Reed, Talley Brown, Caroline Prickette, Addison Bradley, and Cadrian Davis round out the cast.
