Lady Cats Basketball Team All Alone in District Fourth Place Playoff Spot After Greenville Win Tuesday

In a game the Lady Cats Basketball Team needed to win to strengthen their playoff position, the Lady Cats used a strong second half to defeat Greenville, 47-36 at the main gym at Sulphur Springs High School Tuesday evening (February 4). Coupled with a Royse City win over Lindale Tuesday, the Lady Cats now occupy the fourth and final playoff spot, one game ahead of Lindale and two games ahead of Greenville with two district games to play.

Tuesday the scrappy Lady Lions led the Lady Cats, 4-3 after one quarter and 15-13 at the half. The Lady Cats quickly took the lead early in the third quarter and continued to increase their lead for the rest of the game. The Lady Cats outscored Greenville, 17-9 in the third quarter to move ahead, 30-24. The Lady Cats then outscored the Lady Lions, 17-12 in the fourth quarter to wrap up the game, 47-36. Lady Cat freshman Kenzie Willis led all scorers with 22 points including 2 three-pointers. Sophomore post Hannah Cordell scored 12 points. Junior Nylah Lindley added 8 points. Junior Bre’Asia Ivery had 3 points Freshman Serenity Lewis scored 2 points. Greenville was led in scoring by senior Ashanti Wilson-Stevenson with 10 points. The Lady Cats improved heir district record to 3-5. Lindale is 2-6 and Greenville is 1-7. The Lady Cats season record is now 10-21. The Lady Cats travel to Mount Pleasant Friday and then wrap up district play with a home game against Texas High next Tuesday.
