Wood County Sheriff’s Report June 12-18, 2019

June 12

  • Deputies were dispatched to Apache in Quitman, at approximately 7:03 a.m., in regards to an RV battery explosion. There were no injuries and the Quitman Fire Department arrived to make sure the scene was safe.
  • At 8:23 a.m., cows were reported out on FM 69/FM 515.
  • At 9:11 a.m., cows were reported out on Highway 182.
  • Deputies were dispatched to N. FM 17 in Alba, at approximately 9:51 a.m., in reference to an alarm. Homeowner advised that everything was secure.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3947, at approximately 10:21 a.m., in reference to a terroristic threat. The reporting party stated that her daughter had received threatening text messages by a person known to her. She requested extra patrol in her area.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3420 in Hawkins, at approximately 11:22 a.m., in reference to an alarm. Homeowner advised that everything was secure.
  • At 11:41 a.m., cows were reported out at County Road 2402 and County Road 2399.
  • Deputies assisted Quitman Police Department with an arrest at the U.T. Health Quitman Hospital at approximately 11:47 a.m. Brandy Hayes, 28, of Ore City was arrested for Public Intoxication.
  • Deputies provided assistance to a motorist with a flat tire at FM 14 and County Road 3270, at approximately 12:10 p.m.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 7986 in Winnsboro, at approximately 1:09 p.m., in reference to a dispute. The parties were involved in a verbal dispute only and were separated for the day.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2869 between Highway 154 & Highway 49, at approximately 2:00 p.m., in reference to an injured deer on the road. Deputies contacted Texas Parks and Wildlife to remove the deer.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 17 in Alba, at approximately 2:17 p.m., in reference to a criminal trespass matter. The reporting party stated that a known person was banging on doors and being belligerent. Deputies searched, but were unable to locate the subject.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 14 in Hawkins, at approximately 2:43 p.m., in reference to a dispute. Deputies issued criminal trespass warnings to 3 people who were harassing residents at this location.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Lake Holbrook, at approximately 3:05 p.m., in reference to individuals drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana at the lake. Deputies searched, but were unable to locate the subjects.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Highway 37 in Mineola, at approximately 4:20 p.m., in reference to an alarm. Deputies secured the building.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 49 in Mineola, at approximately 4:46 p.m., in reference to a report of harassment. The reporting party stated that her neighbor harasses her and her business customers throughout the day.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3639 in Hawkins, at approximately 4:50 p.m., in reference to a welfare check. The subject was located and everything was okay.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Highway 69, at approximately 5:06 p.m., in reference to reckless driving. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2950 in Golden, at approximately 6:34 p.m., in reference to a disturbance. The parties were having a verbal argument and were separated for the night.
  • At 7:08 p.m., cows were reported out on FM 2966, 1 mile north of Quitman.

June 13

  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2245 in Mineola, at approximately 12:57 a.m., in reference to a burglary. The reporting party stated that he returned to his home to find multiple items missing from his residence. This case remains active.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 2869 in Hawkins, at approximately 8:54 a.m., in reference to a plane crash behind Holly Lake Car Wash. The pilot, transported by helicopter, and passenger, transported by ambulance, were both injured. Also at the scene were the Department of Public Safety and Holly Lake Ranch Fire Department. This accident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2966/FM 154 in Yantis, at approximately 9:08 a.m., in reference to a welfare check of an individual reported to be walking in the road. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the subject.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 2088 in Quitman, at approximately 10:01 a.m., in reference to a fire alarm. The alarm was set off by a painter sanding inside of the home and there was no fire.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 14, north of Hawkins, at approximately 10:22 a.m., in reference to a reckless driver. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2320 in Mineola, at approximately 1:37 p.m., in reference to a reckless driver. The reporting party was almost hit by a car while running on the road. Deputies will provide extra patrol in the area.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 4837 in Winnsboro, at approximately 2:37 p.m., in reference to an incident. Deputies determined the situation to be civil in nature and advised accordingly.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Yantis, at approximately 3:40 p.m., in reference to a suicidal subject. The subject was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service at approximately 5:19 p.m. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the subject.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2225 in Quitman, at approximately 9:16 p.m., in reference to a structure fire. It appeared to be caused by an electrical malfunction in the attic. The Fire Marshall will investigate further.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Highway 37 in Mineola, at approximately 10:50 p.m., in reference to an alarm. Deputies secured the residence.

June 14

  • Deputies assisted a motorist on 69 South in Mineola, at approximately 2:26 a.m., who had a flat tire.
  • Deputies were dispatched to S. FM 2869 in Hawkins, at approximately 2:54 a.m., in reference to a suspicious person. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • At 10:23 a.m., a horse was reported out on Highway 37, just south of Winnsboro. The owner was located.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Oak St. in Yantis, at approximately 12:30 p.m., in reference to a burglary. The reporting party had video evidence of actor, or actors unknown, entering her home without her permission. The victim provided a list of items missing from her home. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2260 in Mineola, at approximately 1:29 p.m., in reference to a civil matter. Deputies advised the reporting party to contact an attorney for advice.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1858, at approximately 1:39 p.m., in reference to a dispute over property. Deputies advised the subject that this is a civil matter.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1977, at approximately 1:57 p.m., in reference to a disturbance. Neighbors were having a verbal dispute, had separated prior to the deputies’ arrival and agreed to stay off of each other’s property.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3900, at approximately 4:11 p.m., to provide assistance to a tractor partially stuck in the roadway. Deputies provided traffic control until the tractor was moved off of the road.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 4837 in Winnsboro, at approximately 4:37 p.m., in reference to a delivery company hitting power lines on the property. They were advised that this is a civil matter.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 515 bridge, at approximately 6:03 p.m., in reference to an abandoned vehicle partially in the roadway. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 515, at approximately 7:19 p.m., in reference to an abandoned vehicle parked in the caller’s driveway. Deputies arrived to find that the vehicle was parked at the edge of the driveway and off of the roadway.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2425 in Mineola, at approximately 8:23 p.m., after receiving multiple calls about hearing shots fired. The subjects left the area after speaking to Sheriff Castloo about shooting guns in the area.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to County Road 2632, at approximately 8:39 p.m. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • Deputies were dispatched to South Highway 37 in Quitman in reference to a reckless driver. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1660 in Alba, at approximately 9:15 p.m., in reference to a theft. The victim reported a large amount of cash missing from a lockbox which was located inside of her house. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1515 in Alba, at approximately 10:14 p.m., in reference to suspicious circumstances. The caller advised seeing lights behind the neighbor’s house. Deputies searched and found the residence secured with no one in the area.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the Shamrock gas station at 154/515, at approximately 11:13 p.m., in reference to a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was located and the passenger was waiting on another car to pick him up.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to County Road 2380, at approximately 11:24 p.m. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2430, at approximately 11:43 p.m., in reference to a disturbance. No offense had occurred and the deputies gave a courtesy ride to one of the parties.

June 15

  • Deputies were dispatched to East Highway 69, at approximately 12:01 a.m., in reference to a party allowing underage drinking and drugs.  Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate any parties.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Maxine in Mineola at approximately 2:24 a.m.  Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2176 in Quitman, at approximately 2:40 a.m., in reference to receiving a threatening text from a person known to them.  Deputies documented the text and advised the victim to call again if the threats continue.
  • Deputies were dispatched to 182/288, at approximately 3:18 a.m., in reference to a dead hog in the roadway.  Deputies removed the animal.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2724 in Mineola, at approximately 7:05 a.m., in reference to a dog bite.  The victim stated that, while out running, 2 dogs ran towards her and one bit her. The deputies located the owner and, since the victim didn’t know which dog had actually bitten her, the owner was advised to quarantine both dogs.
  • Deputies were dispatched to E. Holly Street in Alba, at approximately 10:49 a.m., in reference to an inquest.  A male, 72, was found deceased in his residence. The Justice of the Peace was notified and did not order an autopsy.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3144 in Quitman, at approximately 11:41 a.m., in reference to a burglary.  The victim returned from out of town to discover multiple items missing from his home. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2268 in Mineola, at approximately 12:53 p.m., in reference to a welfare check.  Deputies located the individual and everything was ok.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to FM 1254, at approximately 3:05 p.m.  Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • Deputies were dispatched to E. FM 852 in Winnsboro, at approximately 3:54 p.m., in reference to a missing vehicle.  This is a civil issue, but the reporting party was able to make arrangements to have her car returned.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1700 in Yantis, at approximately 3:56 p.m., in reference to a suicidal person.  Deputies arrived and had the subject transported to the hospital.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 6980 in Alba, at approximately 4:11 p.m., in reference to damaged property.  The reporting party stated that the neighbor’s cows had broken his fence and damaged his hog feeder. Deputies advised that this is a civil matter.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 6673 in Mineola, at approximately 5:02 p.m., in reference to shots fired.  Deputies searched the area and confirmed that the subject was shooting safely.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2263 in Quitman, at approximately 7:06 p.m., in reference to a property dispute.  Deputies advised that this was a civil matter and the parties worked out their dispute.
  • Deputies were dispatched to North Highway 37, at approximately 7:07 p.m., in reference to a car that was broken down on the road.  Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1780 in Yantis, at approximately 7:32 p.m.  The caller believed that a cat on the back deck was possibly dead. When deputies approached the cat, it got up and ran off.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Bentbow Lane in Holly Lake Ranch, at approximately 7:39 p.m., in reference to a welfare check.  Deputies were unable to locate anyone at the location.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 2225 in Quitman, at approximately 8:47 p.m., in reference to a theft.  Deputies contacted the other party and advised them to return the items to the victim. The other party did comply and return the items.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2954 in Alba, at approximately 9:29 p.m., in reference to loud music.  Deputies searched, but did not find any parties or loud music in the area.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3290 in Quitman, at approximately 11:26 p.m., in reference to an alarm.  Deputies secured the residence.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1605 in Alba, at approximately 11:32 p.m., in reference to unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.  The subject had been given permission in the past to use the vehicle. Deputies contacted the reporting party the next day and found out that the vehicle had been left at another location by the subject.

June 16

  • Deputies assisted a motorist on County road 1150 at approximately 3:20 a.m. who had run out of gas.
  • At 9:29 a.m., a horse was reported out on U.S. 69 near Grand Saline St.
  • Deputies assisted Wood County Electric on Highway 80 at County Road 3400, at approximately 10:06 a.m., by providing traffic control while they repaired downed lines.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 2869 in Winnsboro, at approximately 11:16 a.m., in reference to a missing child. After searching the area, the child was located unharmed.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3204, east of Quitman, at approximately 12:47 p.m., in reference to a 4 wheeler driving on the road. Deputies searched the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • Deputies received a call from a party, at approximately 12:54 p.m., in reference to an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The reporting party stated that her vehicle had been missing from County Road 1730 in Yantis for approximately 24 hours. The case was forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2502 in Mineola, at approximately 1:13 p.m., in reference to a welfare check. Deputies located and gave the individual a courtesy transport to another location.
  • Deputies received a call from a party, at approximately 1:17 p.m., in reference to stolen wallet. The reporting party stated that his wallet had gone missing while at Lake Quitman. The case was forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 4420 in Winnsboro, at approximately 5:15 p.m., in reference to damaged property. The reporting party stated that he believes that actor, or actors unknown put sugar in his gas tank. The victim will confirm this by taking his vehicle to a mechanic then re-contacting the Sheriff’s Office with the results.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3542 in Hawkins, at approximately 5:45 p.m., in reference to an assault. Caden Garrett Stewart, 19, of Hawkins was arrested on 2 charges of Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 4480 in Winnsboro, at approximately 6:01 p.m., in reference to an alarm. Deputies secured the residence.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Oak St. in Yantis, at approximately 6:33 p.m., in reference to a protective order. The victim will be requesting a protective order and extra patrol will be provided in the area.
  • Deputies were dispatched to U.T. Quitman, at approximately 8:06 p.m., in reference to an assault which had occurred on County Road 3148 in Quitman. The victim did not wish to pursue charges, but due to the extent of injuries, this case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 1254 in Mineola, at approximately 9:19 p.m., in reference to a welfare check. The subject was transported to the hospital.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1534 in Alba, at approximately 9:25 p.m., in reference to a dispute. Deputies arrived to find that it had been a verbal dispute only and cleared the incident.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 49 in Mineola, at approximately 10:09 p.m., in reference to a theft. Deputies determined this to be a civil dispute and cleared the incident.

June 17

  • At 6:51 a.m., horses were reported out at 154/3130.
  • Deputies were dispatched to S. FM 17 in Alba, at approximately 8:35 a.m., in reference to a bull getting out and damaging the neighbor’s fence. If the bull does not remain confined, the owner will receive a citation.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 5293, at approximately 9:17 a.m., in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle and determined that it was parked off of the roadway and not a traffic hazard.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 1885 in Yantis, at approximately 10:08 a.m., in reference to a burglary. The reporting party discovered several items missing from inside his home and car and provided a list to the deputies. This case is forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 6125 in Quitman, at approximately 10:35 a.m., in reference to a person refusing to leave the location. Deputies issued a criminal trespass warning to the subject.
  • Deputies received a call, at approximately 11:13 a.m., in reference to indecency with a child that occurred on County Road 2650 in Mineola. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies were dispatched to E. Highway 154 in Quitman, at approximately 12:41 p.m., in reference to an alarm. Deputies arrived and secured the building.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Edwards Street in Mineola, at approximately 4:01 p.m. Deputies searched, but were unable to locate the subject.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Private Road 5983, at approximately 5:58 p.m., in reference to an alarm. Deputies arrived and secured the residence.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 3440 in Hawkins, at approximately 10:12 p.m., in reference to a dispute. The reporting party stated that she had been assaulted, but did not want to prosecute. The parties were separated for the night.

June 18

  • Deputies conducted a traffic stop on County Road 3750 at approximately 12:04 a.m. Brandon Chai, 46, of Mineola and Lora Peavler, 56, of Mineola were both arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 under 1 gram.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 69 / County Road 1468, at approximately 7:34 a.m., in reference to a tree across the road.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2920 in Mineola, at approximately 7:44 a.m., in reference to a disturbance. Deputies arrived and determined it to be a verbal altercation only and cleared the incident.
  • At 8:06 a.m., cows were reported out on County Road 3204.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 4403 in Winnsboro, at approximately 8:22 a.m., in reference to an inquest. A male, 76, was found deceased at the location. The Justice of the Peace was notified and no autopsy was ordered.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2150 in Quitman, at approximately 8:28 a.m., in reference to a theft of property. The reporting party stated that he observed 2 individuals walking on County Road 2177 carrying metal posts. When he confronted them, they dropped the posts and left the area. The reporting party will provide photos of the subjects and the case remains active.
  • Deputies were dispatched to 2119 and County Road 2128, at approximately 9:13 a.m., in reference to a dog out. The owner was located and advised to keep her dog confined to her property.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Oak St. in Yantis, at approximately 9:23 a.m. Deputies searched, but were unable to locate the individual.
  • Deputies met with a citizen in the Sheriff’s Office lobby at approximately 10:08 a.m. in reference to identity theft. The reporting party received his bank statement and noticed several transactions that he did not make. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies met with a citizen in the Sheriff’s Office lobby at approximately 10:23 a.m., in reference to a child custody issue and possible assault. This case has been forwarded to investigators.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Smith County, at approximately 10:27 a.m. Michael Smith, 38, of Mineola was arrested on outstanding warrants.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2660 in Mineola, at approximately 11:23 a.m., in reference to a missing person. Deputies searched the area and located the subject safe.
  • Deputies were dispatched to Comanche in Quitman, at approximately 2:04 p.m., in reference to a theft. The reporting party decided not to pursue charges at this time and to give the subjects, known to him, a little more time to return the stolen vehicle.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Main Street in Quitman, at approximately 4:18 p.m. Anne McCarmack, 36, of Mineola was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
  • Deputies spoke to a citizen on the telephone, at approximately 5:06 p.m., in reference to harassment via Facebook that was occurring. The victim will provide the deputy with screen shots of the Facebook posts.
  • Deputies conducted a traffic stop on 154/2225, at approximately 6:26 p.m. William Pennington, 42, of Laneville was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
  • Deputies were dispatched to S. Highway 37 in Quitman, at approximately 6:59 p.m., in reference to a criminal trespass warning. The reporting party did not want a subject at the residence so the subject left the location.
  • Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2869, at approximately 8:33 p.m., in reference to an individual sitting in a car appearing upset. The deputies met with the subject and gave a courtesy transport to her residence.
  • Deputies were dispatched to FM 2869, at approximately 8:44 p.m., in reference to a dispute. Deputies met with the parties and they agreed to separate while one looked for a more permanent residence.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to County Road 4878, at approximately 8:55 p.m. Kevin Reynolds, 32, of Winnsboro was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
  • Deputies went out on an arrest/warrant service to Oak St. in Yantis, at approximately 9:58 p.m. Corey Lindley, 36, of Yantis was arrested on outstanding warrants.
