Construction of left turn lanes on State Highway 19 north at FM 71 in Birthright is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1, according to Texas Department of Transportation officials from the Paris office.
The target completion date for this project, valued at more than $837,000, is late summer 2019. Contractor Sammy Gist Enterprises was granted 48 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project, according to TxDOT-Paris Public Information Officer Tim McAlavy.
Left turn lanes are to be constructed at this intersection for both northbound and southbound traffic on SH 19 in “an effort to improve the safety of the traveling public along this portion of the roadway,” according to a press release from the Paris TxDOT office.
McAlavy reminds motorists who regularly travel this portion of SH 19 in Hopkins County to pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls; and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones, especially while this construction is underway. Drivers are recommended to avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems as well.
