Soccer: Wildcats, Lady Cats Begin District Season with Loss

The Greenville Lions’ soccer team opened district play with an impressive 5-1 victory over the Wildcats at Gerald Prim Stadium Tuesday night (February 12). The Lions wasted no time scoring their first goal 3:34 into the first half. Kevin Jasso scored it. Exactly 6 minutes later, the Lions’ top goal scorer Ian Miller scored to make it 2-0. Miller score again about 12 minutes later and Greenville was up 3-0. In the second half, Lion Joel Salazar scored at 11:59 and Miller got his hat trick goal at 8:21 and the Lions were ahead 5-0. Senior Daniel Moreno scored the lone Wildcats’ goal at 2:09. Isaac Gutierrez got an assist. Wildcats Soccer Coach Alexi Upton noted that Greenville’s roster included an unbelievable 16 seniors along with a freshman goalkeeper. He said the Wildcats made mistakes and Greenville capitalized on those miscues. The Wildcats are 0-1 in district play and 5-6-2 for the season. The Wildcats play Lindale Friday night at 7 p.m. at Gerald Prim Stadium.

Greenville 3, Lady Cats Soccer 0

The Lady Cats’ soccer team opened district play with a 3-0 loss against the Greenville Lady Lions in Greenville Tuesday night (February 12). The Lady Lions scored one goal in the first half and then added two more in the second half. The Lady Cats slip to 0-1 in district play. Their season record is 1-11-3. The Lady Cats will hope for a much better result when they travel to Lindale to play the Lady Eagles Friday at 7 p.m. in Lindale.
