The Lady Cats’ basketball team won two games Friday (November 30) to reserve a spot in the championship game of the Winnsboro Hoopfest. The Lady Cats will play Longview Saturday at 1:20 p.m. in the Winnsboro High School Gym. Friday the Lady Cats got by Alba-Golden, 48-38 and then defeated Winnsboro for the second time in two days on the host’s home court, 47-43.

Against Alba-Golden, the Lady Cats led 17-12 after the first quarter, 25-16 at the half and 34-26 after three quarters. Lady Cat Autumn Tanton’s foul shooting helped keep the Lady Cats ahead in the fourth quarter. She made 7-8 free throws in the final quarter and was 8 for 11 in the game. Tanton had a team high 16 points. Point guard Sadavia Porter hit 3 three-pointers and had 11 points. Danielle Godbolt had 2 three-point baskets and 10 points. Nylah Lindley scored 4 points. Kate Womack hit a three pointer for her 3 points. Latavia Smith and Te’Arria Rose had 2 points each.

That win set up a rematch with the Winnsboro Lady Raiders Friday afternoon. The first quarter was even with both teams scoring 13 points. The Lady Cats outscored Winnsboro 20-14 in the second quarter to take a 33-27 lead into halftime. Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter with the Lady Raiders outscoring the Lady Cats 7-6. The Lady Cats led after three 39-34. At one point in the third quarter, the Lady Cats held a ten point lead at 39-29. Except for two Porter free throws, their scoring drought continued early in the fourth quarter as Winnsboro got to within one point at 41-40. Then the Lady Cats got three unanswered baskets from Porter, Tanton and Godbolt to go up 47-40. Winnsboro answered with one three-point basket but that was all. Tanton led the Lady Cats with 15 points including one three-pointer. Porter had 12 points and two three-point baskets. Godbolt had 9 points with one three point goal. Lindley chipped in with 6 points. Rose hit a three-pointer for her 3 points. Womack had 2 points.
