Lady Cats Defeat McKinney North 3-2

The Lady Cats’ volleyball team got hot in the decisive fifth set against McKinney North at home Tuesday evening (August 14) to take a 15-9 win, which gave them the match, 3-2.

It was a back and forth match. The Lady Bulldogs took set one, 25-22. The Lady Cats battled back to take sets two and three by scores of 25-16 and 25-7. The Lady Bulldogs roared back to even the match with a set four win, 25-18. That set up the Lady Cats hot set five.

In kills, the Lady Cats were led by Sydney Washburn with 9. Abbi Baier had 6 and Autumn Tanton had 5. Lady Cats Coach Justin Maness said he was impressed with the athleticism of Baier in the match. Lexi Whisenhunt recorded 21 assists. Sadie Washburn had a team high 6 service aces. In digs, Sadie Stroud and Tanton had 9 apiece and Maddie Millsap and Taylor McElfresh had 8 each. In block assists, Tanton had 5 and Madi Vickery had 4. Coach Maness said his blockers did a good job during the match.

The Lady Cats improved their season record to 7-3. McKinney North falls to 3-5. The Lady Cats will play next in a Wills Point tournament on Friday and Saturday. Coach Maness said the Lady Cats will face Terrell, Quinlan and North Forney in pool play. He said teams such as Commerce and Texas High were also a part of the field.
