Lady Cats Win Second District Game

The Lady Cats’ softball team picked up an impressive 7-3 district win at Hallsville Friday night improving their district record to 2-0. After a long losing streak against Hallsville, the Lady Cats have now won the last four games against the Lady Bobcats.

Both teams started well scoring two runs in the first inning. The Lady Cats added two runs in the third and one more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. Hallsville picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth but the Lady Cats were still on top, 5-3. The Lady Cats added 2 more insurance runs in the top of the sixth and that’s the way the game ended with a 7-3 Lady Cats win. The Lady Cats bats were active as they had 12 hits on the night. Kelsey Wallace hit a home run and drove in a team high 3 runs. Wallace was also 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Alyssa Abron had another big game at the top of the order. She was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs with a triple. Macee Hollins was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a double. Sierra Smith was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Kate Womack was 1 for 1 with a run scored, a walk and an RBI. Brinklee Driver was 1 for 4. Sadie Stroud had a sacrifice. Abron and Smith had a stolen base apiece.

In the circle, Bailey Haggerty got the pitching win throwing all seven innings allowing only 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Haggerty struck out 4 and walked three. The Lady Cats improved their season record to 14-4.

The Lady Cats will play a varsity only non-district game Monday at 4 p.m. at Lady Cat Park against the Texas Home Educators Sports Association of Dallas-Fort Worth. The Lady Cats resume district play at Lady Cat Park Tuesday against Pine Tree with a JV game at 1 p.m. and a varsity game to follow at 2:30 p.m.
