Nicky Wiggins, Wildcats Soccer Coach, on Pine Tree Loss

Wildcats Soccer Coach Nicky Wiggins said his teams’ 3-0 loss to Pine Tree Friday at Prim Stadium did not go as he thought it would. He said after watching film, he determined that at several key moments, some Wildcats’ players weren’t paying attention leaving Pirate players wide open. Coach Wiggins said the Wildcats did not defend corner kicks well. Two of the Pirates’ goals came after corner kicks. Coach Wiggins has often mentioned how sometimes a second goal can quickly follow the first if a team is down after the first goal. He noted that Pine Tree scored a second goal about 2 minutes after their first one. Coach Wiggins was very displeased with the goal the Pirates scored with just :01 left on the first half clock. He did say Pine Tree is probably the favorite to win the district championship. Coach Wiggins said the Pirates are physical, fast and skilled. The Wildcats are 0-1 in district play and 7-7 for the season. Coach Wiggins said he wants his team to get back into the win column in a district match at Marshall Tuesday night. The Mavericks defeated Texas High Friday night.
