Wildcats Basketball Hosts Marshall Friday; Cipoletta Calls Pine Tree Game Good Defensive Game for Team

Wildcats Basketball Coach Clark Cipoletta said he was proud of his guys for the way they played in a 62-41 win at Pine Tree Tuesday night (January 23).

Coach Cipoletta said the Wildcats played really well in the first quarter despite having only a 9-8 lead after one quarter. He said the Wildcats missed some easy opportunities to score points. Coach Cipoletta said the Wildcats really opened the game up in the second and third quarters outscoring the Pirates, 35-12 to take a 44-20 lead after three quarters.

He said the Pine Tree game was one of the Wildcats best ones defensively and he added there were also stretches of the game where the Wildcats played really well on offense. Coach Cipoletta emptied his bench in the fourth quarter assuring that lots of guys got to play some minutes.

Victor Iwuakor scored 15 points to lead the Wildcats and Coach Cipoletta said the Wildcats perhaps did their best job all year of getting Victor deep touches. Coach Cipoletta said Iwuakor did a good job on turning and scoring after getting those touches.

The Wildcats, ranked #7 in the state, are now 7-0 in district play and 24-3 for the season. They will play Marshall Friday night in Wildcats Gym. The first time the two teams played, the Wildcats won 50-28 in Marshall.
