TxDOT Plans Upgrade to Pavement on SH19 in Rains County

PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that a project to upgrade the pavement on a portion of State Highway 19 will begin Nov. 27 in Rains County.

The contractor, Oldcastle Materials Texas Inc., was granted 210 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project valued at more than $6.5 million. The projected completion date of this pavement upgrade project is late August 2018, officials said.

The project will extend from .86 miles south of the intersection of US 69 and SH 19 in Emory, Texas, to the Van Zandt-Rains County line. The contractor will  rework the existing roadway base, treat the roadbed with cement and overlay a new hot-mix asphalt surface to this portion of the highway, officials said.

The project will occur in phases in order to maintain north- and south-bound traffic flow, and to minimize temporary lane closures necessary for this construction.

Those who regularly travel along this portion of SH 19 are asked to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
