Area High School Cross Country Teams Place at State

Saturday (November 4) was a big day for Hopkins County at the State Cross Country Meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Class A Saltillo Varsity Boys Place 2nd in State: L to R: Hendrick Rios, Trevor Moore, Branson McGill, Matthew Gurley, Lyle Bench, Dillon Beadle & Walker McGill.

In boys Class 1A, Miller Grove won the state championship, Saltillo finished second and Sulphur Bluff fourth.

In girls Class 1A, Miller Grove was second and Saltillo twelfth. Miller Grove’s Jorja Bessonett won the state championship with Saltillo’s Sienna Collins just seconds behind in second place. Other Miller Grove girls runners and their finishes: Lauren Bullard 17th, Jolee Fox 23rd, Cassidy Seaney 27th, ClasAlexa Pelerosa 62nd and Katie Williams 115th. Other Saltillo girls runners: Kristina Wade 63rd, Jocelyn Ochoa 79th, Danielle Ross 130th, Madison Simmons 131st, Ofelia Cabrera 143rd and Chandler Bain 147th. Maddie Hooker of Yantis finished 30th.

Runners and their finishes for Class !a champ Miller Grove: Kobe Robertson sixth, Albert Serrano seventh, Luke Brignon ninth, Grant Earp 17th, Grant Sharp 21st, Matthew Brignon 55th and Andre Treyton 110th. Runner up Saltillo boys runners: Trevor Moore 19th, Walker McGill 25th, Hendrick Rios 27th, Branson McGill 32nd, Dillon Beadle 36th, Lyle Bench 40th and Matthew Gurley 62nd. Sulphur Bluff boys runners: Turner South 12th, Montana Hurley 44th, Ishmael Wade 52nd, Trayton South 79th, Shane Johnson 97th and Jonathan Brown 114th.

In Class 2A girls, Cumby’s Lexi Busby finished 26th.

Two Mount Vernon runners competed. In Class 3A boys, Esteban Cruz was 28th. In Class 3A girls, Gabriella Skelton finished 85th.
