J. W. Benton

J. W. Benton, 84, of Mt Pleasant, TX, passed away on October 14, 2017. He  was born on September 19, 1933 in Titus County to Floyd & Georgia (VanHorn) Benton. He served in the United States Navy; was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg, TX and retired from Price Ford in Sulphur Springs as a mechanic.

He is survived by his sisters, Vivian Nell Price & Exa Johnson; children,  Johnny Melton, Linda Bryant, Mike & Shannon Melton, Carla Godfrey, David Hartman; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Benton; grandchildren, Scotty Lynn Owens & Dana Cherie Owens.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Bates Cooper Sloan Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Winfield Cemetery.
