Lady Cats Lose to Hallsville; Now 0-2 in District Play

Hallsville roared into town and played like a defending district champion as they topped the Lady Cats’ volleyball team, 3-0 in Wildcats Gym on Homecoming Friday. The Lady Cats had a hard time matching Hallsville, who seemed to bring their A game to town. The score was 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19.

The Lady Cats started well in set one scoring four unanswered points but then Hallsville went on an 11 point run of their own. At one point, the Lady Cats trailed only 21-20 in set one but Hallsville scored four straight points to win 25-20. The second set went back and forth at first and at one point the score was tied at 11-11, Then Hallsville scored five straight points. The Lady Cats never got closer than 3 points and Hallsville won set two, 25-15. The Lady Cats looked poised to make a comeback in the third set as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead. Hallsville caught up at 17-17 by scoring six straight points. Hallsville closed out strongly winning set three 25-19 wrapping up the match.

Statistically for the Lady Cats, Autumn Tanton led the team in kills with 6. Erika VanBenthem and Kaylee Jefferson had 5 apiece. Anden Hammack had 17 assists. VanBenthem had 4 service aces. Jefferson led the team in digs with 9. Maggie McGlamery had 7 and Hammack 5. VanBenthem had one block solo. Mieke VanBenthem had 4 block assists and Lexie Whisenhunt had 2.

The Lady Cats are now 0-2 in district play and 17-12 for the season. They return to district play Tuesday night at Mt. Pleasant.
