Cora Marie Smithers

Funeral services for Cora Marie Smithers, age 94, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Burns officiating.  Interment will follow at Cumby Cemetery with Cheyenne Smithers, Jeremy Smithers, Mark George, Cody Smithers, J.D. McCoy and Rodney Brantley serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 18, 2017 at West Oaks Funeral Home.  Cora passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab.

Cora was born on November 14, 1922 in Alto, Cherokee County, Texas  the daughter of George Thomas Smith and Octavia Lillie Ada Scott Smith.  She married J. C. Smithers on February 5, 1944 in Cooper, TX.  He preceded her in death.  Cora was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Pat George and husband Gene of Brashear, B. J. Smithers and wife Ludonna of Sulphur Springs and Billie Hill and husband Henry of Sulphur Springs, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one son Tommy Smithers.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
