Team Tennis Lost to Princeton Tuesday

The Wildcats’ team tennis squad lost their last match before district play begins next Tuesday. The Wildcats fell 17-3 at Princeton Tuesday afternoon.

Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez says several of his players lost matches after having leads. He says their stamina was the problem on a warm day. Coach Martinez says the score was not indicative of how the Wildcats played. Alex Benitez, in boys #1 singles, lost in a third set tiebreaker, 14-12. Coach Martinez praises the play of Blaine Flemens. Flemens returned to the court after being away for three months due to injury. After the long absence, Flemens ran out of gas and lost in a tiebreaker according to Coach Martinez. The Wildcats got points from a trio of sophomore boys. Aaron Lucas and Waylon Matlock won singles matches and Matlock teamed with Logan Shumacker to win a boys doubles match.

The Wildcats are now 1-5 for the season. They will open district play next Tuesday at the Wildcat Tennis Complex against Hallsville.
