It’s a busy weekend in Hopkins County! This will be a great weekend to have some fun, and the Farmer’s Market opens on Celebration Plaza this Saturday!

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office hosts a signing event Thursday, May 4th

Students who will be going into any field of Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS), such as dietetics, culinary arts, housing and interior design, nutrition, health and wellness, textiles, fashion design/merchandising, early childhood, education, hospitality, tourism, recreation, parenting, child development, family & consumer services, or related fields, are invited to a “Say Yes to FCS” special signing event.  Media will be on hand, Thursday, May 4, at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 1200 W. CANHelp is hosting a Tennis Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, May 6th at 8:30 a.m.

CANHelp is hosting their Third Annual Tennis Tournament and Fundraiser on Saturday, May 6th at the Sulphur Springs High School Tennis Counts.  Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The tournament will be a Round Robin style for all age levels and skill types. Proceeds from this event will allow CANHelp to continue to provide important services to the residents of Hopkins County in times of need.  Entry forms are available at CANHelp, 613 Gilmer Street in Sulphur Springs, or online at

 Cinco de Mayo will be held Downtown on Friday, May 5th

Cinco de Mayo will be held downtown on Celebration Plaza on Friday, May 5th from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.  There will be a piñata contest, best taco contest, kid friendly games and even more!  There is no cover charge to attend.

Celebration Plaza will host Reds, Whites, & Brews Beer and Wine Festival on Saturday, May 6th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.  All proceeds benefit the Buried Bone Foundation.

 Northeast Texas Choral Society will hold Spring Concert on May 6th and May 7th

The Northeast Texas Choral Society presents Touchstone, The Music That Makes Your Heart Remember, on May 6th at 7 p.m. and May 7th at 2 p.m.  The concerts will be held at the SSHS Auditorium.  You may purchase tickets from Choral Society singers, online at, City National Bank, Alliance Bank, and Guaranty Bank & Trust.

Cypress Basin Hospice is hosting a Golf Tourney on Monday, May 8th

Cypress Basin Hospice’s 14th annual “Get Away & Play” Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, May 8th at the Mount Pleasant Country Club.  Registration is now open and you can register your team of 4 online by visiting their website, Entry fee for this 4 person scramble tournament is $400 or $100 per golfer. Community support from fundraisers such as our “Get Away & Play” golf tournament allow Cypress Basin Hospice to deliver quality, end of life care, to all hospice appropriate patients regardless of their ability to pay. Heritage Christian Counseling will host their annual Hamburger Cookout on Friday, May 12, downtown on the First United Methodist parking lot between Alliance Bank and across from City National Bank.  It begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends when they sell out!  For $5.00 you can get a hamburger, drink, chips, dessert, and help a worthy cause.  For more information, please call 903-438-6829.

Hopkins County Historical Society is hosting their Arts & Craft Show May 19th and 20th

Hopkins County Historical Society is hosting their Arts, Crafts, & Collectibles Show and Sales on Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Park.  Heritage Park is located at 416 North Jackson Street in Sulphur Springs.  You may also enter the craft sale by renting a booth.  Outside booth space is $35, indoor space is $50.  Any type of craft is acceptable.  For additional information call Joyce Bateman at (903) 438-7431.

AgriLife Extension Service is offering their Twogether in Marriage Workshop on Saturday, May 20th

The spring Twogether in Texas Marriage Education Workshop is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.  The free workshop includes Marriage Expectations, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Money Management, and Goals & Dreams.  Lunch, materials, and refreshments will be provided.  Engaged couples will receive a certificate to save $60 upon applying for a marriage license.  Contact Johanna Hicks at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service – Hopkins County Office, at 903-885-3443 to sign up.

Goodwill Industries is having a Donation Drive on Saturday, May 20th

Goodwill Industries is having a Donation Drive on Saturday, May 20th. They will be serving hot dogs with chips and a drink. For every bag of clothes or of miscellaneous items you donate you will receive a 10% off coupon. They will be delivering the canned goods, non-perishable items, and hygiene products to the Community Chest on May 22nd.

Anniversary Party for Shadow Ranch is scheduled on Saturday, May 20th

Shadow Ranch, a nonprofit therapeutic riding center in Hopkins County, is hosting an anniversary party on Saturday, May 20th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Shadow Ranch is located at 451 CR 2331 in Sulphur Springs.  There will be free food, music, and a bounce house all open to the public.  For more information contact Marion Cox at (214) 604-8005.

Coffee Off the Square hosted a Ribbon Cutting Celebration for their now open Drive-Through

Coffee Off the Square has opened a drive through location at 1401 South Broadway in Sulphur Springs.  Coffee Off the Square is now offering their coffee menu and food for your drive though pleasure! They are open Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
