Wildcats Track Qualifies for an Area Meet

Three Wildcats’ track athletes qualified for an area meet next week on day one of the district track meet Monday at Pine Tree in Longview. Landon Thornton finished second and Peyton Vickery was fourth in the 1600-meter run. Wildcats Track Coach Matt Young said Thornton was in last place after the first 200-meters but worked his way back into the race to finish second. Thornton and Vickery qualified for the area meet in Lovejoy on April 20. Ian Blanch also qualified by finishing third in the shot put. Blanch uncorked a throw of 46-feet, one inch, breaking his personal best by nearly two feet. The throw put Blanch in second place but another competitor bumped him down to third near the end of the event. In pre-lims held Monday, Wildcats Kylan Wade, Terrell Turman and Landry Tyson all qualified for finals in the 110-meter hurdles coming up Wednesday. Ryan Humphries qualified in the 100-meter dash as did Ricardo Torres in the 400-meter run. Humphries and Mason Buck also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles. Coach Young said the Wildcats would also compete Wednesday in 4 X 100, 4 X 200 and $ X 400 meter relays as well as the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run.
