The Wildcats’ golf team finished in sixth place among sixteen teams at their first tournament of the year at the Longview Invitational at Pinecrest Country Club Monday. The Wildcats shot a team total of 314.
Senior Alex Motes shot 73. Colton Bench, a freshman, shot a 77 in his first tournament as a high school player. Carter Lewis shot 78, Andrew Escobar had an 86 and Matt Calhoun shot 87. New Wildcats Golf Coach Chris Owens said he was pleased with the first tournament team score. He said he believes his team can trim 10 to 15 strokes off that score by the district tournament in early April.
The Wildcats will play next in the Rockwall Invitational at Sulphur Springs Country Club on February 17-18. Coach Owens explained that the Rockwall district will have their district tournament at Sulphur Springs Country Club and the February 17-18 tournament will serve as a preview for that district.
