Funeral service for Selwyn Newton Hooks, age 89, of Grand Saline, formerly of Point, will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, 1:00 pm, at First Baptist Church of Point. Bro. Jay Sikes and Bro. Zack Honzell will officiate. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, near Mineola. Visitation will be 12:00 pm, one hour prior to service time.
Mr. Hooks was born in Mineola, Oct. 28, 1927, to Virgil Newton and Daphne Tabiatha Strange
Hooks. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Force. Later, marrying Margie Alice Chance in Sulphur Springs, on March 4, 1950. During his working career, he worked as a truck driver for Lee Way Freight, retiring from there after some 37 years. Also, he worked for Dallas County, as a bulldozer operator, retiring from there after 10 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Point, where he served as a deacon for some years.Before moving to the Point area, he served in several different positions,
including treasurer, at Central Baptist Church in Garland.

Grandchildren: Vanessa Wagoner, Shelly Webb, Leslie Strickland, Jacob Hooks, Jenna Cazares, Emily Price, Brittany Sparks, and Amanda Wesberry, Pam Hurst, Forrest Atkins
Great-grandchildren: Morgan, Jesse, Frank, Tayona, Michael, Samantha, Autumn, Cole, Lauren, Michael, Jaxon, Mady, Lola, Alexis, Samara, and baby Liam due in April
Preceded in death: Parents; son, Larry Hooks, in 1996; Wife in 2010; daughter, Kay Atkins in 1999; grandson, Nathan James in 1982; 5 brothers and 1 sister
