An internet scam alleging that the internet provider is going out of business and wants to refund money that has been paid the internet provider since the customer has signed up with the company has hit locally, according to Sheriff-elect Lewis Tatum. Tatum encourages anyone contacted by the scam to not respond in any manner to their requests.
Tatum says that if you respond the scam will make your bank accounts appear to have all the money taken out. The perpetrators will then attempt to force the victim to send the perpetrators money grams to put the money back into the accounts. “The money grams are the means of defrauding you of your money,” according to Tatum. He stated that the money in your bank account has not disappeared.
