Elizabeth “Liz” Johnson Polk

PolkFuneral services for Elizabeth Johnson Polk “Liz”, age 76, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Harold B. Nash, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow at Mel Haven Cemetery with her nephews serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.  There will be no formal visitation.  Liz passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Liz was born on March 20, 1940 in Sulphur Springs, the daughter of Audrie Johnson and Gladys Eva Mae Johnson.  She married Charles Ray Polk in 1963 in Dallas. He preceded her in death.  Liz was a 1960 graduate of Douglas School.  She was a seamstress for H. D. Lee for over 30 years and also worked as a dietitian for Woodhaven Nursing Home.  She was a member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a Herriam of Jerico.

She is survived by her children, Lester Henley and wife Janice of Sulphur Springs, Mary Johnson (Earl Dial) of Sulphur Springs, Johnna Polk Clayton (Zebedee Clayton) of Sulphur Springs, Octus Polk of Dallas and Kendrick Polk (Jackie Muhammad) of Dallas, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harvey Henley, sisters, Margaret Pety, Mary Ruth Kelly and Lillian Debase.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
