Whitney A. Miller

Whitney A. Miller of Plano, Texas passed away on May 8th, 2016, at the age of 74.  He was born March 1, 1942 to Manton and Melverne Baker Miller of Cooper, TX.

He grew up in Cooper working behind his dad’s soda fountain at Miller’s Pharmacy.  Whitney was recruited to play basketball at East Texas State University and became known as the “East Texas Jumping Jack.”  He was also on the Lion Track team, member of Kappa Alpha and voted All Campus Favorite.  He was later voted into the “T.A.M.U.-Commerce Hall of Fame” in 1998.

Whitney was Manager and later Regional Director for Great American Reserve and Miller & Assoc. for 51 years. He was devoted to the school district he loved and worked with for 30 years.

Whitney and Kaye are both long-time members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.  They were members of T-Bar-M in Corpus Christi and were avid tennis players. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends especially on golfing trips.  Whitney looked forward to weekly golf and lunch with his loved golfing buddies.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kaye Miller, of 51 years; children Kami Miller Ross and husband Allen of Nacogdoches TX and Misty Miller Burgess and husband John of Timpson TX; two brothers; Marion Miller and wife Ann of Cooper, Dr. Bill Miller and wife Hariett of Tyler, and sister Sharon Johnson and husband Michael of Campbell, TX; 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Once in a while someone lives a beautiful and totally unselfish life – “Just for Others”.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday May 12, 2016 at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, TX with Rev. Joe Ed Goolsby officiating .

Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM prior to Memorial Services which will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to charity of your choice.
