SSHS UIL Academic Team Places Sixth in State

The Sulphur Springs High School UIL Academic Team finished sixth in state at competition earlier this week in Austin. Wildcats UIL Academic Coordinator Gina Wilder provided a list of winners to KSST Radio (audio story), Suddenlink Cable Channel 18(video story for Friday Channel 18), and ksstradio.com (list below and seen on Channel 18 News post available Friday afternoon). Team placement includes:

News Writing– Steven Payne won 3rd place–Brandon Nelson is his coach.

Literary Criticism–Patricia Parks won 6th place individual.  She, Jesse Allen, Chloe Ross, and Carissa Carter comprised the First Place 5A State championship team.  Gail Herman is their coach.

Spelling and Vocabulary–Lydia Burleson won 4th place individual, and Carson McIllwain and Chase Charlton tied for 5th place individual.  Mandy Eckhardt completed the First Place 5A State Championship team.  Gail Herman also coaches this team.

Lydia Burleson placed 1st and is the 5A State Champion Ready Writing Champion.  Gail Herman also coaches this event.
