The “Basics at Brunch” free seminar hosted at the Seniors Center on Monday
marked the first of seminars to be offered in Sulphur Springs by Elder Care Attorneys Ross and Shoalmire. A capacity crowd was present to hear “The Five Basic Mistakes…and How to Avoid Them”, aimed at educating Senior Citizens and family members in areas of legal interest. Lisa Shoalmire encouraged seniors to focus on planning well for their living years, and illustrated the five areas of caution as:
*Not Having a Power of Attorney
*Thinking That Medicare will “take care of everything”
*Giving Your Assets Away vs. Opening a Trust
*Making Important Decisions Based on Bad Advice
*Doing Nothing
Following the talk, Ms.Shoalmire fielded numerous questions from the audience and revealed plans to come back in 2016 with programs on other topics of legal interest to Senior Citizens.
